War on Slugs & Other Garden Killing Bugs

I made some collars to go around my seedlings for this year. Even though I’ve seen the copper tape doesn’t really work, I put it on anyway (I have tons of that tape!). I’m not really sure the collars work. The rolly pollies and slugs have still managed to get onto my plants. Maybe there are less?

One method that seems to work well is the beer trap. I have been pouring leftover beer into the traps. They have been catching a lot of slugs!

The best method seems to be hunting the slugs at night with a flashlight. If I hunt slugs every night, I might find only 2-3, but if a few days go by it could be 5+. The first night I probably found 20.

Despite my research that adding lady bugs to your garden might be a waste of $7, Morgan insisted we buy some lady bugs for the backyard. We just let some out tonight and already I saw one chow down on the black aphids we have on our green onions. I’m hoping the lady bugs decide to stay because there is a FEAST out there waiting for them.
